Our Furry Friends

*Always adopt from an animal shelter and be sure to spay and neuter your pets. Almost 4 million animals are put to sleep in shelters every year because they cannot find a home.

There are countless things in this world that make me happy: getting a B on a calculus test, the color turquoise, and long naps...but my animal companions fill me with pure glee every day.

My family recently adopted a kitten, and I am convinced she is the cutest thing on the face of this earth. She's five months old and has been living at our house for almost a month, and I honestly don't know what we would without her now. She even has her own daily routine now. She wakes up after my dad, and she runs downstairs and eagerly waits for her breakfast. Then she wanders around the house, zipping under chairs and tables and cabinets. When I'm at school, she sleeps for the majority of the day (I have to admit, I am really jealous of that part of her routine). Usually she's awake when I get home, taking the occasional nap and doing whatever it is cats do...and in the evening, she goes crazy and is ready to play. If you have never experienced a playful kitten before, believe me when I say that it's hysterical. She's already become our best friend.

Animal best friends aren't quite like human best friends. They can't go to the movies with you, share the latest gossip, give you relationship advice, or throw you a surprise party. Not to mention the whole issue where animals can't talk like those cute cartoons...but the feeling pets and human BFFs leave you with is exaclty the same. Animals can make you laugh, cry, tell hilarious stories, and feel better after a terrible day--which is exaclty what human best friends do for us, too.

Now that you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, go find those fuzzy, furry little friends of yours and scratch their belly. They deserve it. =)
